The Digital Dungeon - October 2024

A lot has happened this Spooktober, from a tremendous amount of new game releases, exciting gaming news and upcoming titles. We have been very excited playing through more of the "creepy" titles to keep up with the season of Halloween, and with the game releases this month it helped entertain that notion. To begin, we had the release of Until Dawn's new enhanced edition that released onto PS5 and onto PC. Although some upset from fans complaining about the remodel of Jess and Josh' extending teeth, the game changes up its platinum to be slightly more refreshing for any previous achievers. For starters, collectibles are in an all new location so a separate guide will be needed from the PS4 version if you wanted to pursue that. Additionally, we got rewarded with a surprise secret ending to add more story to an already well established game! More reason to reignite that love for a great game.

Until Dawn was not the only creepy release this month as we got to finally get our hands on playing Silent Hill 2! With slight weariness from some of our team in regards to the combat trailer, we are delighted to see that it was all for nothing as the game does a phenomenal job in catching the old spirit of the original for newer audiences. It shows itself to be quite a simple platinum that can be done within 20-30 hours. With a continued excitement for game releases, we also received Dragonball Sparkling!Zero, Metaphor Re Fantazio and Like a Dragon: Yakuza TV series! All amazing titles by their reviews but we await to play them ourselves in, hopefully, the coming months. Mid month we also had announced the next trilogy of remasters for Tomb Raider 4/5 and 6, set to release the 14th February 2025. Having been playing the original three remasters this month, I am excited to explore a further trilogy with the modern controls. They create a somewhat tedious to begin with but easy when you get the hang of it play style to let new comers enjoy much older game titles. A welcome break from the formula we have for video games now! Lastly, probably the most anticipated game of this month, we got the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

I personally (Nick) have had the pleasure to lay this game on release, and the displeasure. The trophies have been split yet again with the PS4 version having a platinum and the PS5 version being a DLC for MW2. Thankfully the trophies themselves are no where near as tedious as the grind for MW3's Outbreak, but they do bare some weight. Players will be finding themselves unlocking diamond or opal camo on their weapons of choice. We would recommend using Zombies for this as acquiring critical kills whilst going for the augment trophy will just come naturally. However, I went for it on Multiplayer and used the LMG's until I switched to the RPG's. I would recommend whatever you end up using has the least amount of that weapon in its category as you need to achieve gold for them all before going for diamond/opal on one. As for the campaign, a fairly easy veteran experience especially if you want to grind money on an earlier mission to purchase all upgrades. Armour is essential and much needed otherwise at times you can get one shot, but the health bar being visable adds a lot of viability to the runs. Overall, I would class Black Ops 6 trophies as a 6/10 in difficulty. Easter Eggs have to be done, and terminus can be tedious for those unversed with zombies, but that's why we exist!

News

The month did not start strong for Sony, as on October 1st we had a global server shutdown where people could not gain access to any of their digital catalogue of games if they wanted to download them. This sparked curiosity with us, as it shows that even with spending the extra money to have the game digitally, that license can be taken away from us within seconds by server closure of by Sony withdrawing the IP. Although some people dislike the amount of room collecting cases may take, it might be a safer option to guarantee your purchases but hopefully we can see some changes in the future.

In more upbeat news, we got a new announcement of Halo Studios (formerly known as 343. Industries) showing us screenshots of Master Chief in his full Unreal Engine 5 glory. This is a pivital moment for future games on Microsoft console, with teases of smal

l games like The Matrix Awakens giving us a glimpse of the engine back a couple years back, we can now see it brought to a series close and dear to our hearts. Their work on bringing Chief to UE5 could be part of the decision as to why Halo: Infinite stopped receiving their planned story DLCs, but we can not be too sure.

Now this next news was truly unexpected. On the 6th October we got to celebrate the 10th year anniversary of Alien: Isolation; a true master piece in the horror genre and an absolute staple within the Alien franchise. With the rather ambiguous ending, fans no longer need to wait long as the director of the original game themselves confirms that the sequel is in early stages of development - finally a new addition to a game that revolutionised the depth of an AI within an NPC. If you have not played Alien: Isolation, we would highly recommend it. Whether you're being chased by humans, pursued by synthetics or hiding away in the vents awaiting a xenomorph to pass by unnoticed, the game offers tremendous amounts of suspense, action, drama and also, if you want, utilities your microphone when hiding for extra immersion.

You can find Alien: Isolation on sale on our website throughout November, alongside a bunch of other exciting titles to help boost your trophy list!

Unfortunately, the Sony "L's" do not stop at the start of this month. PS Stars (A reward system that gives clients points for purchases on the PS Store used to redeem collectibles, discounts and games) is no longer giving points from subscription based purchases. On top of this, the points will no expire if they have not been used within 3 months and have slowly been making the points slower to generate and receive. It would not surprise us if within the year PS Stars will be less sort after, but we remain optimistic for it to have a larger revival.

Additionally, Firewall Studios - the developers of Concord - has been shut down. Sony only acquired the company in April 2023! This means that the likelihood of it returning as a free to play game is very unlikely.

Moving away from Sony, Microsoft announced Xbox Cloud gaming! Running free with the game pass ultimate, you now have the ability to stream games on your phones, tablets and PC. This can be huge for universal gaming, if it can prove to be stronger and more efficient than Google Stadia, we could see this boosting sales for Microsoft; hopefully a win for them to get their sales back up and start to think about being back in the race against Sony. You can download the Xbox app, purchase a game, and stream it there and then when on the go! Only issue is needing some decent internet to hold a stable connection, which is one of the issues that we have with the PS Portal. Look forward to seeing what comes from it and we do not have to wait long as it releases next month!

Nintendo had a horrendous leak this month. Leaking material for upcoming games, movies and more future projects. Source codes for games like Black and White, Heart gold and Soul Silver were fully leaked, code name Gaia was leaked for the next Nintendo console (hinted towards a Switch 2), a terrible amount shown to us way before any official announcements. Concept art of beta versions of Pokemon were shown, promotional material, the lots. Huge loss for Nintendo.

IO Interactive, the developers of the newer Hitman series, have finally released information around the 007 James Bond game that has been in development for sometime. We know that it will be an origin for a young James Bond, and a refreshing potential series if the first one is successful. We expect it to play very similarly to Hitman itself, but look forward to the end result once it finally releases!

Site Updates

As we are sure you are already aware, but this month we introduced a new loyalty system to our website. Whilst each purchase still generates Trophy Points at a better rates than competitors, it also allows you to reach separate tiers within the loyalty program. These tiers, stretching from Bronze to Platinum, enables you to get access to higher levels of discount codes just by regularly using our services! With October we gave double points for each purchase, and are sure to do more events similar in the future so keep your eyes peeled!

On top of the loyalty program changes, we decided to finally add a wishlist button for your most anticipated orders. Hit the heart on a product page when logged in with your account to keep track on the games you eagerly await to be placed on sale. With a sale every month (and special events planned in between) you might well get your game to go on a sale you just can not refuse!

Thank you all again for taking your time to read and update yourself through the Digital Dungeon. Lots has happened this month and next month we are sure will be the same. Additionally, with The Game Awards airing in December, Digital Dungeon is the perfect place to keep up to date on any new released game and or updates. Take care everyone!
