Sonic Racing: Crossworlds Tips

Racing through Sonic Racing: Crossworlds can be a pain for those unfamiliar with racing games. Striking resemblance to Mario Kart, Sonic Team Racing and other various arcade racers, Sonic Racing: Crossworlds takes all the great parts of these games into one and with it a selection of trophies not too difficult to aquire for a platinum trophy, albeit a little long. So I'm going to write a small guide as to how I trivialised the races in Sonic Racing, and made obtaining this platinum easier!

What is an arcade racer?

To begin, I will give a very brief overview of these arcade kart racers for those unfamiliar. The game has you race around a track, picking up power ups that can help speed you up or slow opponents down. You can drift to get speed around corners, spot hidden shortcuts (which in this game I don't think are ever too worth while) until you reach the finish line. Each Grand Prix consists of 4 races. 3 seperate maps with the final one doing one lap of each. On the second lap of each map, you get the chance to go "Crossworlds", which keep an eye out for as there is a trophy tied to visiting multiple of these! Additionally to the track, you have the stats of your character and their vehicle. Unlike Mario Kart 8, I found this did not impact massively on my racing style (unless I chose very lucky to begin with). My character I chose Spongebob because of the handling and the character, then for the vehicle I focused on speed.

How to easily achieve 1st place?

There are multiple difficulty settings when entering the grand prix avaliable to race in. As you start, pick whatever one you feel most comfortable with to get used to the controls. You will need to face harder difficulties later, but by that time you'll be used to the playstyle and have the build needed to zoom ahead anyway. Whilst racing, you will slowly unlock more gear mod slots, this is Sonic Racing: Crossworlds way of being different from other racers as it allows you to create a build best suited for you. In my case, I experimented with two different builds, the later being the one I will tell you about now! Once you have unlocked all 6 slots (also needed for a trophy and will naturally come whilst beating all prixs) you want to focus the build in collecting coins and giving you a bonus for the more coins you have. With the six slots I used: Ring Doubler, Hyper Ring Engine and finally 130 Ring Limit. You start each race with 30 coins, this already gives you a stat increase. Then you want to collect as many as possible (which is very quick with the doubler) and substain that high coin count. Hitting into walls or being hit my enemy weapons will decrease your coins but you can easily stack them back up again, and usually by the time I did get hit I was already so far in the lead I had time to spare to recover. I do strongly advise to play with steering assist off whilst practicing so then that way when you come to this build you can get even further speeds.

And with this build, thats it! You should easily be able to attain first place in most, if not all, races you compete in. With each race make sure to compete against a different rival for another trophy, and as you continue to win races this mods will upgrade for yet another trophy later on. Its a very simple build, a simple game to learn against AI and overall a relatively easy platinum to obtain depending on how quickly you can pick up the racer gamestyle.
